Kohima, December 4 (MExN): A seven day training programme on Nursery Management of Temperature Fruit Crops under Skilled Training of Rural Youth(STRY) was organized by Horticulture Research Farm (HRF), Pfutsero in association with the State Agriculture Management & Extension Training Institute(SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management(MANAGE) Hyderabad.

The main objective of the training programme which concluded on December 2 last at Pfutsero under Phek district was to provide skill development training to rural youth aged between 18-35 years.

The central focus of the training was on nursery management of temperature fruit crops like kiwi, persimmon, plum, peach, pear, apricot and apple.

The key resource persons during the training were Sentinungba Longchar H.O, HRF Pfutsero, Kelhouzakie Chielie, A.H.O, Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima, Lhuveto Keyho, H.I, HRF Pfutsero and Chapi Chale, H.E.A, HRF Pfutsero.

The training was attended by 17 youths from Phek district.

Theory session and hands on practical demonstration on nursery management practices and propagation methods were emphasized during the training programme for production of quality planting materials.

Phuleshe K. Yepthomi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pfutsero graced the closing ceremony.

He emphasized on the importance of production of quality planting material for better results with special emphasis on Kiwi as it is gaining national importance and also suggested to make Pfutsero- Kiwi village of Nagaland.

The programme concluded successfully followed by official handing and taking over of the establishment matters under Horticulture Research Farm, Pfutsero with Kelhouzakie Chielie as the officer in-charge HRF and Sentinungba Longchar as DHO Kiphire.
