Student bodies condemn alleged life bid on NSF leader

DIMAPUR, MARCH 7 (MExN): Various student bodies on Wednesday condemned the alleged life attempt on Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) vice president Boveio Poukai Duo, his cousin Veilou Veino, and former NSF speaker, Joshua Thong on March 4 near East Police Station, Dimapur around 9:00 pm.

The three were reportedly heading to Sematilla from Purana Bazaar when an unknown assailant fired two shots at them and absconded. No one was injured.

The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) and Dimapur Rengma Youth Organization (DRYO) while condemning the act have appealed the law enforcing agencies to look into the matter at the earliest and nab the person responsible for the shooting so that no untoward incident occurs to the peace loving citizens in the near future.

The Ao Students' Union Dimapur (ASUD) has demanded that the law keeping agencies bring the culprit(s) to book at the earliest and befitting punishment be meted out to them as prescribed by law.

It also alleged that police personnel standing guard at the premises of the East Police Station were witnesses to the whole incident, yet refused to cooperate to the request of the hapless victims to chase down the gunmen.

In this connection, the ASUD appealed the Commissioner of Police to strictly initiate the process of arresting the offenders at the earliest so that such dastardly acts may be prevented from taking place in future.

The Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) while condemning the life attempt on the student leaders has questioned the police administration for not taking any action when the incident was happening in front of them.

The TSUD also condemned the gun culture happening in the Naga society and also stated that any attack on the student leaders is an attack on the student community at large.
