Protest demanding justice continued even as Manipur Police department has assured continuation of its investigation to solve the suspicious death of the 14-year-old girl student in her hostel room.

The girl was found death by hanging in her dormitory on July 18 in a controversial circumstance in which the family of the deceased alleged the death reeked of foul-play.

In this regard, a poster campaign was launched on Monday in various parts of Imphal and Thoubal, showing solidarity to the "Joint Action Committee (JAC) against Mysterious Death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu" demanding justice to the deceased girl.

The protestors demanded speedy investigation into the case to deliver justice to the victim.
The protest and poster campaign continued even as the state Home department has decided to hand over the case to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation).

Addressing a press conference on late Sunday, IGP Clay Khongsai said that the investigation into the case currently under progress under the supervision of a deputy inspector general (DIG) will continue to solve the case. He also said that the state police has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Imphal West Additional SP A Ghanashyam Sharma. The team is investigating the case and Clay Khongsai himself is monitoring the investigation.

"So there is no question of slowing down the police investigation into the sensitive case", the police officer said while informing that two wardens of the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School where the student was found dead in the hostel have been arrested.

Statements of as many as 36 students who were staying in the hostel have also been recorded, he added, while admitting that the case of Babysana is very sensitive and police have been investigating the case with all seriousness.

On the other hand, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights and Child Rights organised a “mass solidarity meet on child rights” in Imphal’s Keishampat on Monday.

Acting chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Khaidem Mani presided over the meet in which speakers have expressed their concerns over the lack of common guidelines in running hostels and boarding. They alleged that the untoward incident that had happened at the hostel of the school (Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur) on July 18 was the not the first time.

Meanwhile, general secretary of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Shital alleged that school authorities were very irresponsible and such irresponsibility has led to the death of Babysana. He said that hostels of the schools were regulated in their own ways by the owners of the private schools or school authorities.

"Student bodies have been demanding to frame common guidelines running hostels but the authorities of the state government are still not paying heed", he added.
