TENING, DECEMBER 19 (MExN): The Mbaupungwa Lui Students’ Union (MLSU) celebrated its golden jubilee at Mbaupungwa village under Tening sub-division on Friday, marking 50 years of service to the student community.

Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang attended the programme as chief host, while Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru was present as special guest and Joint Director, Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Igwanglia Simon Teilia as guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Zeliang extended warm greetings and congratulations to the MLSU on the milestone anniversary and lauded the union for its sustained contribution towards nurturing leadership and championing the rights and aspirations of students over the past five decades.

He said the golden jubilee was not merely a celebration of longevity but a tribute to generations of young leaders who have upheld democratic values, inclusivity and social responsibility.

Highlighting the role of youth in nation- and society-building, the deputy chief minister said students are the driving force of progress and innovation. He remarked that backwardness is not a matter of choice but a situational challenge, and urged students to dream big, set clear goals and shed a dependent mindset.

Zeliang encouraged students to strive to translate their dreams into reality through hard work and determination, and called upon the students’ union to continue serving as a constructive platform for dialogue, creativity and positive development. The jubilee celebration featured cultural performances and various literary activities.
