
Dimapur, October 16 (MExN): Agricultural demonstrations under Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) were conducted by the final year agri students of NU: SASRD in six villages of Pfutsero block of Phek district.
The first phase of demonstrations were conducted in the subjects of Horticulture, Extension, Agriculture Engineering, Plant Pathology & Soil Science in Lasumi, Zapami and Kami villages on October 14 and Lekromi, Pfutseromi and Kikruma villages on October 15. The programme was attended by the village council members, host farmers, farm women, village elders, youths, women societies and Self Held Groups.
RAWEP Coordinator Dr. K.K. Jha from NU: SASRD welcomed the villagers and encouraged them to adopt improved agri-technologies for increasing productivity and profitability. He lauded the efforts of RAWEP students and congratulated them for successfully conducting the need based demonstrations on using scientific techniques of training, pruning and packaging of Kiwi, construction of zero energy cool chamber, post harvest management of horticultural crops, vermi and azolla composting, soil sampling techniques, use of improved farm implements including maize sheller, seed dibbler & wheel hand hoe, green house construction, mushroom production, identification & disease management in cabbage, chilli, paddy, cucurbits, maize etc.
At the end of demonstration, perceived benefits of the programme were shared by the respective VCC chairman, council members & host farmers, informed a press release from Dr. K.K. Jha.
The subject experts included Dr. A.K Verma, Dr. Rokolhuo Keditsu, Dr. Jurisandhya Bordoloi, Dr. L.Y Longchar and Dr. Morenbala from NU: SASRD.
The second phase of demonstration will be conducted on October 26 and 27.
