Students of DMI St Joseph enact Shakespeare’s play

Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): Students of DMI St Joseph Global School under the guidance of the department of English enacted Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’ on February 20. The school organizes a monthly play for the school students to infuse into students the dramatics and the theatrics. At the same time to entertain the students and revive the plays of Shakespeare in schools and to incorporate it as a medium to enhance the language skills of the students.
From class VIII, Mishika donned the role of Antonio, while Yato, Bassanio, and Maherini from class IX played the role of Portia while Vikebe, Shylock and Kuputo, the Magistrate with other minor characters from various classes. The students were taught what drama and dramatization is. They were given the script of the play in modern English to practice the dialogues and were trained on how to deliver the dialogues, moods, expressions, etc.
Principal Backiyaraj T while addressing the students said that they should develop theatrics and dramatics which is also one of the skills related to public speaking and English language development. Through this opportunity, a press release from the school said that students get over their inhibitions, stage fright, which in turn shapes up their personality. Administrator, Sr Stella was also present at the event.
