Nine students were selected from Nagaland state to participate in Young Scientist Programme or YUVIKA launched by Indian Space Research Organisation.
Chümoukedima, June 9 (MExN): Four students of Class 9 from St John School Diphupar 'B', Chümoukedima, were among the nine students selected from Nagaland state to participate in the Young Scientist Programme or YUVIKA (Yuva Vigyani Karyakram) launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The two-week residential training programme for school children was held from May 19 to 30 at NE-SAC Shillong.
Out of 98,000 registrants, 350 students were selected from various states and Union Territories based on well-defined criteria for the ISRO programme, stated a press release received here.
The selected students from SJS were Kinai Karangnamei, Rakovilu Denuh, Hatho, and Kevin Angami. Hatho secured 3rd position in the ISRO Quiz.
This educational initiative aims to stimulate scientific interest among school students by providing direct engagement with space science, technology, and applications through lectures, hands-on sessions, visits to facilities, project work, cultural programme and activities like drone cum robotics, practical on 3D and VR, model rocket making and telescope integration.
The students also participated in live demonstrations, including the Rohini-200 sounding rocket launch, self defence, and had an online interactive session with Indian astronaut AngadPrathap. Educational visits to the Science Centre and Planetarium in Guwahati and the Eastern Air Command and Don Bosco Museum in Shillong were also part of the program.
St. John School has previously participated in the programme, with one student selected in 2019 and five students in 2024.
