Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): A one day seminar and project expo on ‘Rock art in India and its preservation’ was organised by the History Department of St Joseph University on November 5.
The main objective of the seminar was to enable the students to understand the broader sense of the subject and equip them with knowledge about the richness of Indian rock art, stated a press release received here.
Dr Avinuo Chupuo, Head of the Departments delivered the welcome address. Dr D Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor exhorted the gathering and encouraged the studentsto participate more in skill enhancement activities, where he also mentioned that apart from acquiring a degree, skill is also a requirement to survive in an actual working environment. The Vice chancellor and Sr Thianes distributed certificates to the students.
The students delivered special talk on the topics “definition and types of Rock”, “importance of rock art and threats to rock art” and “preservation and management of rock art sites”. The talk was followed by an exhibition on Indian rock art sites created by the 12 groups of MA (history) students.
