DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): In an effort to popularize science and give exposure to the local student community to Astronomy, Innovation Hub & Space Education Centre, DST organized a sky gazing event focused on the observation of the Moon and the Lyrid meteor showers. 

A press release issued by Er V Zhale, Junior Mentor, Science and Technology Department said the event was conducted in two districts- Kohima district (venue at Azedon High School) on April 19 and Dimapur district (venue at Bethesda Hr. Sec. School) on April 27. 

Each event consisted of two sessions. The first session was an interactive seminar on the subject matter with Asecho Cosmos Phinyo, Local Science Communicator & Author of the book "Sunlight & its effect on the environment" while T. Wilson, Education Assistant Innovation Hub & Space Education Centre Nagaland Science Centre interacted with the participants. 

The seminar was followed with sky gazing, wherein the Moon was discussed and observed using Astronomical telescope Celestron CPC 1100 Starbright XLT and the Lyrid meteors were observed with the naked eye. Both events concluded with a spot-quiz based on the subject wherein the top three responses were awarded. Around 150-160 participants turned up for the events.
