Students motivated to preserve rich cultural heritage

Traditional weaving and basket making at DBHSS Wokha

Wokha, July 25 (MExN): In an initiative to preserve the rich Naga cultural and traditional heritage, particularly of the Lotha Nagas, the class 12 students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha participated in traditional weaving and basket making at the school premises.

Traditional weaving was carried out by the female students and basket making was carried out by the male students with invitees from the parents and past pupils on July 25.

“Realising the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Lothas and promoting skill development,” the event showed light under the initiation of the language teacher, Marcus Humtsoe.

Humtsoe lamented that at this fast changing world, “the students are rooted in their minds with western culture and living the rich cultural heritage is a hard reality”. He encouraged the students to give importance to the rich cultural heritage of the Lothas and carrying it out throughout generations.

The School Principal, Rev. Fr Manuel gave a remark that such a programme will motive the students to identify the traditional roots and will positively impact the students in their long run. The invitees also encouraged “the students to bring alive the roots of cultural heritage and even to the extent of promoting their skills in the local markets.”
