Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): The Government Middle School, Peren town conducted an awareness-cum-training programme in the school premises with students and teachers on July 22.

According to a press release received here on Friday, the programme was conducted to affirm the Government of Nagaland notification in the ‘Ban of single-use plastics’ in the state, and to impart the importance of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.’

Realising that the school consumes single-use plastic polythene bags for many purposes especially while distributing PM Poshan (Mid-Day-Meal), the school decided to completely stop the use of single-use plastic polythene bags and go for alternative means, that is, paper carry bags made by the students and teachers from the school, the release stated.

As part of the training, students were taught how to make paper carry bags and also to recycle used papers to curb the menace of plastic carry bags and the serious environmental and ecological challenges posed by the rampant use of plastics, it added.
