Students pitch in ideas to beautify Tsumang Lake

On Monday, students from nine educational institutions pitched in their innovative ideas on how to clean and beautify Tsumang Lake, a vital water body which lie in the middle of Wokha town and rescue it from its polluted and stagnant condition.  

Commemorating the World Environment Day 2017, the Tsumang ‘A’ Youth Organization in collaboration with Tsumang Colony Council had organized the inter high school project model competition titled “Beautification of Tsumang Lake” for fresh ideas which are both practical as well as sustainable from young minds.  

Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha came up with the prize winning idea on the beautification of Tsumang Lake during the competition. Springdale School won the second best project followed by Cistus School which was adjudged the 3rd best project. Other schools were also equally innovative in their project ideas.  

An impressed Dr TM Lotha, Advisor, Treasuries & Accounts, Labour & Employment, who was the chief guest, listened intently to the students explaining their projects along with demonstrations. He also suggested that every project in the competition could be incorporated into a single project to be executed at Tsumang Lake.

  Earlier, Dr Lotha exhorted the gathering that it should be the bounden responsibility of the young generation to take up conservation efforts to save the environment.  

Organizers said the competition aims to spread awareness and inspire youth about local health and environment issue so that they can actively participate and work to bring out positive changes. Natural Nagas, an NGO working towards wildlife conservation was also a partner of the competition.
