Peren, February 8 (MExN): To sensitized and educate the people on the dreadful killer disease Cancer, the Cadets of Class VIII and IX of Sainik School Punglwa organized a street play on cancer ‘The Silent Killer’ at Punglwa Village Weekly Market on February 8.
The Cadets delivered a creative street play vividly depicting how Cancer can kill the human race silently. An introduction on awareness and prevention of Cancer was given by Cadet Tamar Mara and his team of cadets.
“Nagaland, a tribal state in India is not free from modern diseases. Amongst these, Cancer is one of the most prevailing diseases and is spreading at a very high rate due to modern life style. Due to this dreadful killer many precious lives have been lost in Nagaland,” Sainik School Punglwa stated on a report on the event.
“The disease is one of the most confusing, commonly misdiagnosed, and poorly understood entities because of the location of the involved area and their lifestyle,” the report added while informing that the top 3 cancers in Nagaland among men are Nasopharynx, Stomach, and Oesophagus, and among females they are Cervix, Stomach, and Breast.
“Incidence rate of Cancer Nasopharynx among males in Nagaland is very high (21 per lakh population) and is only next to the highest incidence in the world,” the SSP also added.
The information on Cancer was provided by the cadets to all the villagers present at Punglwa. The speech was given in both English and the local language so that the message could be conveyed to the last person present.
The villagers of Punglwa and nearby villages were immensely benefitted. The Chairman of the village complimented and expressed his gratitude to the school authority for organizing educative street play by the cadets for the villagers – making them to rededicate their lives and fight for the cause of Cancer elimination in the society.
