Reacting vehemently over the deterioration of peaceful situation in Longleng district in the recent past, leaders of various students’ organization poured out their anguish and resentment, wherein, innocent civilians had become the targets and victims.
In a release by Moishen Phom, Editor, Phom Student’s Conference (PSC) informed that barely a few days after a peace rally was organized on 6 February condemning the incident of January 27 in which two women were seriously wounded in cross firing between the factions, on 11 February, one Ongshet who came to Longleng to buy medicine from the village for his sick child was also cold bloodedly killed by underground cadres.
Condemning the incident as a complete negation of the Peace rally, Shanthong Phom, President, PSC said, “It is high time for our people to examine our weakness and susceptibility to resist the perpetuators. We can no longer stay in fear in our own homes when our lives are at stake”.
Manla Phom, Editor, Longleng Town Students’ Union (LTSU) said that under the present circumstances, the people of Longleng lived in fear and that it was high time for them to come out of their fear. She further appealed to the various individuals responsible to leave the people in peace while giving them room to grow in every aspect.
Viewing the situation at Longleng, Angphen Phom, Women Affairs Secretary, Dimapur Naga Student Union (DNSU) deplores, “ its so sad that we are becoming victims to those whom we sympathize and support as our freedom fighters” while adding that being a social worker does not mean that they have the license to kill. Lamenting over the rampant killing spree at Longleng, the leaders called upon every right thinking citizens to denounce such senseless action because nobody knows who the next victim would be adding that they are with the PSC in their stand for further course to condense the situation.
