Students’ recital marks Hallel Music Centre first anniversary

The Hallel Music Centre, Kohima celebrated its first anniversary with a students’ recital at Kohima Village Council Hall on September 14.

Addressing a gathering of well wishers, parents and family members of the students as guest speaker, Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Director, Task Force for Music and Arts, Nagaland lauded the dedication of the board members and faculty of Hallel Music Centre and said this was a good time for the music scene in Nagaland.

Pointing to the fact that Nagaland is the only state to have a separate cell for Music, the guest speaker said the government is giving a lot of importance to music and artistes and therefore it is important that all sections make it a joint effort to achieve the common dream of musicians across the state. He said Nagas are gifted in music, be it any genre, but we must strive towards professionalism by excelling in it and not just be content with the average.

Hallel Music Centre with its motto ‘Edify to Praise’ is a joint venture project and government registered institution established in 2017.

At present there are 51 students and 6 teaching staff with Gideon Mesen, an accomplished musician as director. The centre offers 10 disciplines including two disciplines in traditional music.
