Students resolve on ‘ancestral land’

DIMAPUR, JULY 3 (MExN): In their recent meeting, the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union and the Angami Students’ Union resolved to oppose any forceful claims or occupations of “our ancestral lands by any other tribe or community.”

Reaffirming the age-old neighborly traditional relationship between the Zeliangrongs and the Angamis, the students said in a joint statement, “The meeting unequivocally stands that since time immemorial, the Zeliangrongs and the Angamis have common traditional boundaries with each other, and there has never been any other tribe or community between us.”

“We also appeal to all the Nagas to have mutual respect and maintain the traditional boundaries of all Naga tribes in the larger interest of solidarity and integrity of the Nagas.”

The students further resolved to work in earnest cohesiveness for peaceful co-existence in the Naga society and therefore appealed to all the Naga national workers to do away with their factional animosity and shun violence, but sincerely dedicate towards achieving the larger goal of the Nagas.
