Students sensitized on road safety

Students of Unity College, Dimapur were sensitized on road safety awareness by a team of Dimapur Traffic Police Zone I at the college premises on Saturday.  

The students were shown a demonstration on how to treat accident victims for medical emergencies by the Medical First Responder Team of the Traffic Police.  

Addressing the students, OC Traffic Zone I, Mhathung Patton highlighted on the road safety tips and the need to know about safety rules. He mentioned ‘observation’ as a key to avoiding road accidents for one’s safety as well as that of others. He said drivers of public transport were entitled to regular free eye check-ups. The OC urged students to obey traffic rules.  

ABSI, Bokato Zhimo, Traffic Zone I talked about the common causes of road accidents and added that 90% of accidents were caused due to human negligence while 10% could be attributed to mechanical failures.  

He urged the students to ensure wearing helmets and fastening seat belts both for drivers and passengers. “Avoid drunken driving, using mobile phones, over speeding and stick to your lane,” he advised.  

ASI Yansathung Lotha, Traffic Zone I talked about the Motor Vehicles Act and highlighted on the various offences under different sections of the Act
