Students spearhead ‘clean & green’ Khonoma drive

Kohima, February 24 (MExN): The Khonoma Students’ Union (KSU) organised the monthly cleanliness drive on February 22. 


The Union in a press release stated that the drive was conducted within the village settlement in the morning with the participation of all the students of class 3 and above, from all the high schools and primary schools in the village. During the day, the executives of the students' union office, with class 9 and 10 students of the three high Schools in the village continued the drive picking up plastic covers, rags  and other waste materials lying on the roadside, picnic spots and various places  outskirts of the village and the waste materials were safely disposed.


The KSU in collaboration with all the schools within the village have been doing the cleanliness drive once every month and it may also be mentioned that Khonoma village was recently declared a green practice village on June 5, 2019. Also being the first green village of Asia, cleanliness and keeping their surrounding clean and green is of fundamental importance in the village. 


Meanwhile, the KSU has reminded all visitors to the village about ban of single-use plastic within the village jurisdiction, and appealed not to litter waste materials.
