With the objective to spread awareness on HIV prevention, testing and the need to eliminate stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, the Red Ribbon Club of Zunheboto Government College (ZGC) organised an HIV & AIDS awareness campaign across Zunheboto town on September 17.
The awareness drive covered several locations, including Old Town colony, Kawoto Complex Alahuto Colony Junction and Centre Point at Project Colony. Students of the Red Ribbon Club participated in the campaign carrying placards with messages such as “Fight the Virus, Not the Person,” “Know Your Status, Get Tested” and “Educate, Empower, End AIDS.”
The campaign highlighted the importance of HIV testing, safe practices and avoiding the sharing of needles. Participants also called upon the public to extend compassion and support to people living with HIV instead of discriminating against them.
The National AIDS Helpline 1097 was also promoted as a source of information and assistance related to HIV & AIDS. The awareness programme, including a flash mob, was organised under the directives of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society.
