Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Chotisuh Sazo today called upon the students to work hard and try to obtain the best form of education and lead the people in future.
Addressing the 62nd general session of Chozubami Students Union here in coinciding with the 69th general conference of the Chakhesang Students Union (CSU), he said, today, we live in a globalised world, which is highly competitive and increasingly becoming borderless.
“Science and technology are critical to the economic growth and to the uplift of the quality of life of our people,” he said.
The changes taking place in the world today demand higher levels of innovation in order to improve our competitiveness, he advocated.
With the shift towards knowledge-based economies, the ability of a nation to continuously enhance proficiency is science, technology and innovation has become more urgent, he said and stressed on the need to response to those changes with new strategies and approaches.
“The future is in your hands. It is up to you to liberate our community from being labeled “backward,” Sazo told the students.
He said that backwardness is a state of mind and the wheels of revolution that can transport us out of it are in the hands of students.
Sazo also challenged the students to “refine your worldview, to expand your visions and horizons, and to translate your visions and dreams into action.”
He also stated that with the emergence of urbanization and the flow of rural population to urban areas even in the Naga society, “we have also seen the evolution of new ways of life.”
The tradition of a close-knit society that we used to know is hardly seen anymore. The feeling of belonging, social responsibility and cooperative living has been replaced with the culture of selfish, individualistic motives among many people in our society, he said.
He said that it is the responsibility of educated youth and students to lead our people by example in choosing what is right from wrong, and in preserving, promoting and transmitting the aspects of our culture which are worthy of cherishing.
Rev. Dr. Kethozelhou Keyho, general secretary NBCC and Seve R. Vadeo, president Chakhesang Students’ Union also shared greetings.

Akhrole Keyho, Ist runners-up, Kids for Fame 2013, Bozio Nienu & Phizolii Neinu and Alpha School presented special numbers.
The inaugural function was led by Zasekhoyi Ringa while CBCC youth secretary Miiliivoyi Nienu invoked God’s blessing.
NLA deputy speaker Imtikumzuk, NLA commissioner & secretary for N.Benjamin Newmai, Nagaland Bee-keeping and Honey Mission chairman Pusazo Luruo, SIRD additional director Velii-o Shijoh, 5th NAP deputy commandant Khriisa Keyho and several other dignitaries present on the occasion.
