Minister for Higher & Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, today said students must put in all efforts and energy towards fulfilling their dreams and aspirations.

The Minister said dreams are not achieved by extraordinary people but by ordinary people who think and work extraordinarily. “You know the reality and ground from where you stood up,” Along said.

Speaking at the 12th Freshers’ Day-cum-Annual Day of Unity College, Along said students must aspire with all their heart and labour zealously to achieve their dreams. He also reminded that the dreams and aspirations of parents to see their children succeed are equally important. The Minister said nothing can stop a person from being empowered if one has the will and set forth with a plan to act upon.

Along also said a person should be willing to take risks if he or she wishes to make a mark or succeed in life.

Referring to the college as “a cradle where the future of our people are nurtured”, the Minister who also laid the foundation stone of administrative block II of the college said this would be another infrastructure that would cater and facilitate the academic needs of younger generation. He encouraged the students not to be mere certificate or degree holders but to actively involve themselves in serving society, especially the downtrodden and weaker section, in whatever capacity.

“Whenever I visit colleges, I see that the inner potential of our youth to become the strength of society is not nurtured fully”, the minister observed and added if the institution and teachers cannot infuse noble dreams into their students, then the big buildings and infrastructure of the college would be meaningless.

Further, Along said Naga society is presently at “the threshold where you can either make it or break it...Are you willing to accept change and ready to be the change?, he asked, and added “let us not criticize each other but take the first step to bring about positive change.”

The Minister also released the annual magazine of the college and felicitated the meritorious students on the occasion. Earlier, principal, Unity College, presented a brief report of the college.
