Sub-Inspector lost in Wokha wildfire ops rescued after 24 hours

A Sub-Inspector who went missing while battling a wildfire near the Vankhosung Helipad area on March 18 was found and rescued on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bentick Konyak was located at Tsenchio’s farm in the Wokha village area between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM on March 19.

As per the statement, Konyak recounted that he became separated from his group and misinterpreted the directions, causing him to walk in the wrong direction. 

Unable to find his way out, he spent the night at the farm. The next morning, he came across a retired policeman who provided him food and water before alerting the authorities.
A rescue team was dispatched shortly afterward to retrieve him. 

Due to the narrow roads, the rescue team, led by SDPO Wokha Sangthing Khiam, had to trek to reach him, informed that the statement issued by SDO (Civil) Wokha, Nuhuta Tunyi.
Upon his rescue, first aid was administered at the scene before he was transported to the District Hospital Wokha for further medical assessment, it said.

The SI sustained minor scratches, and a blood test was conducted at the hospital as part of his medical evaluation, it added.
