The Nagaland U-14 team today kicked off their Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2019 campaign on a positive note with a goalless draw against formidable Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), Bangladesh.
The BKSP is the national sports institute of Bangladesh team and its U-14 team was the champions of 2016 edition, while the team was the winner of both U-17 Boys’ and Girls’ category in 2018.
However, the U-14 Boys of Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, representing Nagaland at the diamond jubilee edition of cup slated from August 20-29, are no novice either. They were winners in 2008, 2012, and 2014 and was also the runners up in 2007. In 2018, Manipur lifted the trophy in U-14 category.
In the evenly poised match today, both sides created many chances but failed to convert them into goals, eventually ending the match in a goalless draw.
While BKSP started strong and troubled the Nagaland side in the first 20 minutes, the latter regrouped thereafter and responded with equal firepower to end the first half in a positive note.
In the second half, both sides played out evenly.
This year, Nagaland team is lead by Mughato Aye (Team coach), Akihito Zhimomi (Team Manager) and assisted by other two officials.
Nagaland is in Pool–C along with BKSP (Bangladesh), CBSE, Haryana and Team 15.
According to the schedule of the tournament, Nagaland is slated to play Team 15, Haryana, and CBSE on August 22, 23 and 25 respectively.
