Mokokchung, December 1 (MExN): The Mokokchung district administration and the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) have in separate statements appealed to the people of Mokokchung not to resort to panic buying as there was sufficient stock of essential commodities in the market. The two parties along with the Mokokchung Municipal Council had on November 29 conducted an “assessment of stocks and price check of essential commodities” in view of the economic blockade imposed by Assam based organizations.
While the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir ordered that all traders in Mokokchung must adhere to the price list of essential commodities fixed by MMC, the MCCI stated that price control and regulation of services and commodities without marked MRP were under the purview of the district administration and MMC and advised the public “not to spread the rumour that MCCI is responsible for price hikes.”
MCCI added that it was their policy to ensure that all goods and services were sold in Mokokchung below the prescribed rate set by statutory bodies in the best interest of our esteemed customers. For any grievances, the deputy commissioner informed that the public can bring their grievances to the district administration, MMC or MCCI.
MCCI said that, apart from working for protecting the rights and preserving the dignity of the business community, they were also dedicated to serving the people. “MCCI is ever ready to go the extra mile to ensure that the market is stable under any given circumstances,” it said, adding that efforts were being made to replenish the market to meet public demand without any hitch despite the economic blockade.
While requesting that the public should not fall prey to rumours or unconfirmed reports, MCCI also warned that traders and businesses indulging in “unethical and illicit business practices like price hike and hoarding by taking undue advantage of the prevailing situation” would attract strong punitive action.
