Suggestions pours in to improve quality Mon's education-quality

DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): A general meeting of all Government High School teachers and Educational Officers called by Zaveyi Nyekha, DEO Mon was held on June 2 at the premises of GHSS, Mon under the theme, ‘Improvement of examination system and inspection.’

Speaking on the occasion, Chingwang Konyak, MLA stressed on the importance of nurturing a child from the primary level itself which he reminded is a challenging task for the teaching community to accept with sincere dedication.

He also highlighted the importance of pupil-teachers relationship and parents-teachers association and above all the ‘discipline’ which should prevail among the teachers.

While urging all to function unitedly as an efficient engine for the better future  of children, Konyak encouraged the teaching community not to feel discouraged by the problems faced by them because of environment or any other situation but to continue with their best effort for the sake of the child. 

N.Handique, Senior G/T of GHSS, Mon who also spoke on the topic, ‘How to set questions’ during the meeting, prepared model questions of Mathematics and Science subjects to use as sample for the teachers.

During the discussion hour, N.K.Dev, Headmaster GHS Naginimora pointed out that weak foundation, negligence of parents and home study, lack of awareness on the part of the teachers towards their duties etc., has been the reason for poor performance of students in the HSLC Examination. 

M.Sharma, Headmaster GHS Wakching, meanwhile pointed out that the students will be able to do better in the coming examination by following the instructions. Many teachers also spoke at length to find out ways and means for the remedial measures for improvement.

In this connection, DEO Mon Zaveyi Nyekha urged that the model questions and answers be prepared in three sets for the students to practice on them along with multiple-choice question papers. He also volunteered to help the students. according to him weekly tests, monthly tests and home works are some of the keys to academic success.

He urged all teachers to stick to the board's pattern of questions for the students to be familiar with such  types of question. Nyekha also presented a paper on the topic, ‘concept of inspection’ in which he asked all DISs, SISs, Coordinators and TOTs to go for inspection every month in their respective jurisdiction.

He further asked the concerned officers to observe classroom-situations and to check whether teachers are following the new pedagogy. 

The meeting also resolved to conduct class IV examination in all ECRC levels with common questions in the year 2006 and to follow strictly, the criteria of passing of all major subjects for class VIII and IX respectively according to Zaveyi Nyekha, DEO Mon.
