Sukhalu appeals to Federations

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11 (MExN):  In an attempt to dissuade the NSF, ENSF from going ahead with its proposed agitation, Advisor, School Education, KT Sukhalu on Sunday reminded that the school education system has also been affected by the pandemic and students across the state are the vulnerable victims.

“We must work together to ensure that their future is not compromised,” he stated.

Sukhalu said that the Department is grateful for the initiatives taken by the NSF and ENSF to mediate between the Government and the agitating teachers in 2018, giving the assurance that they will take up the matter with the Government on the behalf of teachers.

The Government, on its part, has already agreed in principle to mainstream the SSA and RMSA teachers of 2010 & 2013 batches subject to certain conditions vide Cabinet meeting held on October 3, 2018, he added.

The Department of School Education had apprised the representatives of NSF and ENSF on September 10, 2020 of the status of the issue at hand.

The issue was also reviewed at the level of the Chief secretary on September 14, 2020, and also on October 6, 2020, of the actions taken by the Department to fulfill the conditions stipulated in the Cabinet decision issued, he informed.

“A meeting was also chaired by the Chief Secretary on September 9, 2020 with the NSF and the ENSF where the position and the status of the issue was reiterated and the two students’ Federations were requested to re-consider and withdraw the proposed agitation to be launched from October 12, 2020,” he stated in a press release.

Sukhalu also said the Chief Secretary had issued a clarification on October 10 on the matter and the Department has been taking all due action required.

In this regard, he appealed to the NSF, ENSF and SSA and RMSA teachers not to take the ‘extreme step’ of launching indefinite agitation, especially at the time when people are suffering under the effects of COVID-19.
