Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, and Chairman of Urban Local Bodies and Village Council Committee, K Tokugha Sukhalu on Thursday said significant progress is being made in infrastructure and public facilities in Zunheboto district.
Sukhalu, an MLA and former IAS officer, made the remarks while inspecting ongoing developmental activities across the district.
Speaking to media persons during visits to various project sites, he expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio, along with other ministers and advisers, for their continued support in driving development initiatives in the district.
During his visit to a newly blacktopped road from Alahuto Colony junction to Zunheboto Government College under the Urban Development Department, Sukhalu noted that several other roads are currently under construction, with topping works in progress, while a number of key roads in different parts of the town have already been completed.
He said Zunheboto Government College has requested an extension of the college road, which would be taken up. He also assured the principal in this regard.
Sukhalu further informed that a working women’s hostel is under construction under the Women Resource Development and Horticulture department, headed by Salhoutuonuo Kruse. He added that construction of the Deputy Commissioner’s office is also underway.
He said the administrative guest house in Zunheboto has already been completed, while another guest house is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated soon.
Appreciating the Urban Development Department, Sukhalu commended the engineers and officials for closely monitoring the projects and providing technical guidance.
“I know there is much more work to be done and I can assure our people in Zunheboto that these will be taken up in time,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Sukhalu inspected several ongoing and completed road projects, including those from the Assam Rifles check gate area, Alahuto Colony, and the road connecting Daily Bazaar to New Colony.
He said the ongoing blacktopping work from Alahuto Colony junction to Zunheboto Government College via North Point Colony is expected to be completed within a month, despite minor delays caused by shortage of materials.
Responding to queries on new road development at Lizu Naghuto via Hekiye to Lochomi village, Sukhalu said that due to geographical constraints, “Zunheboto township is growing in length, not in breadth”.
To address this, a road project connecting the area has been taken up under a government scheme. He said the 17-km stretch is progressing well and is expected to be completed within three to four months, subject to weather conditions.
Sukhalu also commended the engineers and workers involved in the project and reaffirmed that more development initiatives will be undertaken to meet the growing needs of the people of the district.
