A three day long Sükrünye Mini Hornbill Festival concluded here today with resounding success.
Gracing day three event as the guest of honour, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu thanked all the organizing committee members for their selfless service and contribution towards the success of Sükrünye festival.
He extended Sükrünye greetings to all on behalf of all the Phek district legislators. Stating that Sükrünye is a festival of purification or sanctification, Azo said “We have to sanctify ourselves in Christian manner and improvise all this culture and tradition we are trying to revive.”
He said there are some certain culture and traditional practices which need to be revived and keep alive so that posterity will not blame us but we continue to follow the same trend.
Azo said that there are some culture and practices which were totally not acceptable in today’s society in a Christian world which need to buried and forgotten.
Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) president Lhuvesayi Lohe also shared Sükrünye greetings.
Phek deputy commissioner Orenthung Lotha graced the evening Sükrünye as valedictory guest.
Day three event was marked by mini marathon under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sükrünye Haft Marathon under SVEEP campaign, special presentation by Phek village cultural troupe and Leshemi village, indigenous tool race and bamboo pole race competition, wrestling, traditional fire making by Middle Khomi village, nettle shawl weaving by Zhavame Women Society, cotton spinning & grass raincoat braiding by Chizami village women weavers, earthen pot making by pottery village Runguzu Nasa, snail eating competition, etc. etc.
The festival was organized by state government in association with Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO).
