SUMAN scheme launched at District Hospital Kiphire

Kiphire, October 25 (MExN): The office of Chief Medical Officer, Kiphire launched Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) at the conference hall, District Hospital, Kiphire, on October 25. The scheme was launched by Dr R Chubala Aier, CMO Kiphire.

A press release from the media officers, CMO office Kiphire stated that speaking at the launching programme, Dr R Chubala Aier said SUMAN scheme is a significant initiative that aims at providing dignified and quality healthcare services to every woman and newborn visiting a facility. She said that the scheme is an initiative by the government of India to put an end to preventable maternal and newborn deaths in the country.

In this regard, the CMO said awareness about the scheme should be disseminated to the communities. She added that the medical department should coordinate with other line departments so that the programme and initiative would be a success. “All of us are involved in this and everyone should work together that this scheme would be a success in our district,” she stated.

Earlier, Dr K Pewezo Khalo, DPO (RCH/UIP) gave a keynote address during which he highlighted the aim of the SUMAN scheme including its objectives and packages. He said SUMAN is an initiative for zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths. 

DPO said the vision of SUMAN is to create a responsive health care system which strives to achieve zero maternal and infant deaths and high quality of maternity care delivered with dignity and respect. The beneficiaries of the scheme include all pregnant women, all mothers up to six months post delivery, and all sick infants. 

He briefed about the objectives, attributes of a SUMAN compliant facility, broad pillars of the initiative, entitlements under the initiative, notification of facilities under SUMAN, quality assurance under SUMAN, grievance redressal mechanisms, maternal death reporting under SUMAN, and SUMAN volunteer, among others.

It is to be noted that SUMAN designated centres in Kiphire district are District Hospital Kiphire and CHC Pungro. The scheme was launched at CHC Pungro on October 21.
