‘Sümi and the Dance of the Dark Spirits’

Dimapur, May 27 (MExN): ‘Sümi and the Dance of the Dark Spirits’, Toinali Sema's maiden novel for young adults, was released at Manipal, Mangalore by Manipal University Press (MUP) on May 24.

According to Deccan Herald report, the writer Toinali Sema pointed out that children's books are mostly authored by international writers and there are very few from India, especially from the Northeastern states.

“The basic culture of the Northeastern states is oral, but the rich treasure is vanishing as the cultural inheritance is not penned down. There are misconceptions that the people from Nagaland don't read, which is not true. The oral legacy is taken forward and there is nothing much to read,” she was quoted as saying. She added that Nagaland stands isolated.

Toinali’s book was published with three other books marking the 100th publication of MUP.

‘Sümi and the Dance of the Dark Spirits’ is now available on Amazon and MUP site http://mup.manipal.edu/. With 72 pages, it is priced at Rs. 199.
