Sumi Council, DC Court Area organise Dengue awareness

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The Sumi Council DC Area organised a Dengue awareness programme in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur on September 9 at DC Court fellowship with Dr Kavito Zhimomi, District Program Officer for Vector Borne Disease & District Surveillance Officer as the resource person.

Dr Kavito in his presentation gave a report on the prevailing situation in regards to Dengue cases in the state particularly of Dimapur. He informed that Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. Stating that the Dengue is largely a man made disease and that people are largely responsible for the rising dengue cases, Dr Kavito called for joint effort of all stakeholders.

Emphasizing largely on bringing the Dengue cases under control by way of source reduction, he urged to clean up the surroundings where there is stagnant water, clogged drains and water filled containers, tyres, flower pots etc. Stating that these are the hot-spot of mosquitoes breeding, he urged the public to clean up these spaces at least twice a week.

He urged the gathering to observe a dry day, clean respective surroundings and observe all necessary preventive measures. He also gave an insight on the symptoms of Dengue, treatment and preventions in the event of Dengue infections.

Further Dr Kavito acknowledged the council for initiating such an awareness program and urged upon every stakeholders to join hands with the department in controlling Dengue.

Khekaho Aye, Chairman Sumi Council gave the opening remarks and highlighted the activities of the council towards Dengue Awareness Program.

The resource person was accompanied by Peter Sangtam, District Consultant for Vector Borne Disease. The programme was attended by members of STL, Church Leaders, GB's and Youths.
