Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The Sumi Council East Dimapur held its annual general session on January 23 with the theme ‘Sumi ye Sumi shiaye kimiye mayesa’ at Purana Bazaar Village Council Hall.
Minister for PHED Tokheho Yepthomi addressed the gathering. He vouched for unity and communal harmony within the community and also to maintain brotherhood with other communities for the growth and prosperity of Naga society. He also urged the people to cooperate with the government for all round development of the state as a whole.
H.K. Khulu, retired Additional Chief Secretary, who also spoke on the occasion urged Minister Tokheho and the concerned citizens to give emphasis on the development of proper drainage and sewerage system in East Dimapur area.
Exhorting the gathering, Vihoto Achumi, General Manager, Industry, encouraged the Sumi community of East Dimapur to be the torch bearers of peace and unity in the society.
Sumis of Purana Bazaar, Naharbari, Darogapathar and Darogajan attended the annual session, which was chaired by outgoing chairman of the council, Tohoshe Awomi and was recorded by outgoing general secretary, Kughato Chophy.
According to a statement issued by outgoing chairman, a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2017-2019 was also elected during the session. The new team consists of Chairman - Dr. Hitoka Achumi; Vice Chairman - Tovishe Achumi; General Secretary - Tokihe Awomi; Joint Secretary - Kiyento Zhimo; and Treasurer - Inakhe Yeptho.
