
Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): The 9th edition of All Sumi Games and Sports got underway this morning at Kuhuboto town with the parliamentary secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control, Jacob Zhimomi as the chief guest during the inaugural function. Jacob Zhimomi conveyed greetings and best wishes from Nagaland chief minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu. Stressing on the role of sports in promoting peace, chief guest said games and sports help to bring a sense of universal connection between people and thereby inculcating brotherhood, respect and appreciation for one another. He said sports are an international language and powerful tool that is able to cross cultures and bridge social and ethnic divides, and also encourage integration and social tolerance, which are necessary for lasting peace. Such platform bring individuals and communities together, highlighting what people have in common, he maintained. On the economic growth and livelihood security, Jacob said success in sports comes with name, fame and wealth but for which one has to have self determination, discipline and tolerance to pursue excellence in sports, as success is only for those who work hard. He said sports provides ample job opportunities and government will help and support those who excel. He encouraged the participants to maintain utmost respect of each other and sporting spirit as such principles are equally important and equal to winning the trophy. Wishing the event to be a successful one necessary, Jacob was hopeful that many talented sports persons would be nurtured through Sumi Games and Sports. The event which is being organised by All Sumi Games and Sports Association and hosted by Kuhuboto Ghakhu Sports Association has drawn participation from all across the state.
