ZUNHEBOTO, JUNE 19 (MExN): Vehemently condemning the Seyochung village authority’s resolution asking the Sumis to quit their ancestral land, the Sumi Hoho has asked the state government to immediately intervene in the matter. In an emergency meeting at Zunheboto on June 18, the Hoho expressed its serious concern and displeasure on the “illegal decision” and subjection of house arrest of the Sumis. It also asked the government to take the needful measures to protect the lives of the vitimised citizens and apprehend the responsible culprits (signatories).
A release issued by its president and general secretary, H.S. Rotokha and Aheto V. Yepthomi, also stated that the union equally blamed the DC of Kiphire ‘for biased attitude’ and warned that he would be held responsible ‘if any Sumi was beaten/tortured or dies out of starvation and related factors.’ It also said that the ‘unlawful decision’ was taken on Jume 12 in the presence of court staff namely DB Sepicho of Seyochung, DB Tsrithrongto of Yetsumi (Yangphire) and Yangthsase of Seyochung.
Nevertheless, the release added that the Hoho, taking all steps not to give space to “ism” between the two brother tribes, advised both the Sangtam and Sumi public of Seyochung to maintain utmost precaution. This was advised so as not to destablise the age-old and cordial relationship sowed by forefathers but rather as an effort to strengthen the bridge of peace and harmony between the two communities by respecting tribal identity and culture of each tribe, it added.
