A Sumi Hoho (SH) delegation comprising of four office bearers met NSCN (K) Chairman, SS Khaplang on February 20 at the NSCN (K) headquarters in Taga, Myanmar and discussed with him about the need for peace among the Naga people and the various Naga political groups.
On February 18 and 19, the delegation met other high ranking members of the NSCN (K), including the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C), Deputy C-in-C, Defense Kilonser and others.
Requesting anonymity, this information was confirmed by a Sumi Hoho official who was a part of the delegation, which started its journey from Nagaland on February 15 and returned to Nagaland state on February 23.
“We risked our lives not in the interest of Sumi community but in the interest of peace and entire Naga people,” said the SH official.
It has been learnt from other reliable sources that the Sumi Hoho was requested by the Interlocutor to the Naga peace talks, RN Ravi to meet Chairman SS Khaplang and apprise him of the need for restoration of peace between the two sides. However, the Sumi Hoho official maintained that the delegate visited Khaplang not because of request from Ravi or any other government/organization but the visit was initiated for “peace and good of the Naga people.”
Stating that the Sumi Hoho has deputed some of its officials to Delhi to apprise the Government of India about its meeting with Khaplang, the official refused to divulge further information citing that the “peace mission” to Myanmar was under process which is going on positively.
The SH delegation comprised of its President, Vice President, Secretary and Finance Secretary along with seven other attendants.
NSCN (K) Chairman willing to meet Naga Hoho & ENPO
NSCN (K) Chairman, SS Khaplang has given in written to the Naga Hoho President expressing willingness to meet Naga Hoho and ENPO, the two apex bodies entrusted by the Nagaland State Government to pursue Khaplang to resume ceasefire with the Government of India.
Khaplang’s willingness to meet the delegation assumes significance after an eight-member team of the Naga Hoho and ENPO visited Myanmar last January in an effort to meet him but returned after meeting his emissary in Mandalay.
Divulging this information, Naga Hoho, President, Chuba Ozukum told The Morung Express that, Khaplang did not specify time, date and venue of meeting but that the joint delegation would further communicate with him to meet in person.
Chuba said that the joint team during their visit to Mandalay had expressed to Khaplang’s emissary about the Nagaland State Government’s desire for the NSCN (K) to resume ceasefire with the Government of India and accordingly submitted a representation.
Asked if the NSCN (K) was willing to resume ceasefire, Chuba said that the emissary responded by saying it depended on Chairman Khaplang. The joint team left Nagaland for Myanmar on January 24 and returned on February 2.
