
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 11 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho and the Watsü Mungdang has condemned the August 7 incident in Zunheboto where in personnel of 32nd Assam Rifles allegedly abused civilians especially women.
In a press statement, the Sumi Hoho said an emergency meeting was convened with its frontal organization on August 11, 2019 in connection with the August 7 incident and condemned the “barbaric inhuman act of the security personnel as well as physical assault on women who tried to intervene.”
The meeting also resolved to reiterate on the FIR filed by Zunheboto Sumi Totimi Hoho (ZSTH) and to request the concerned investigation authority to speed up the investigation.
Further, the SH also resolved to submit a representation to the Governor of Nagaland for his intervention in connection with the misconduct of 32 Assam Rifles against the public at Zunheboto.
In similar vein, the Watsü Mungdang, the apex body of Ao women, in a separate statement demanded that if the ‘so called security’ who are supposed to protect the people instead ‘assaults and abuses,’ then they should be removed and stringent punishment awarded to those involved.
Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau of the Defense Wing, on August 10, had denied the allegation of assault “as a malicious attempt” to malign “the image of the Assam Rifles.”
