
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): All Sumi inhabited areas have been declared as ‘Peace Zone” where bloodshed and fratricidal killings is to completely stop in the entire Sumi inhabited area. The declaration came following the Sumi public rally organised by the Sumi Hoho at Zunheboto on January 15. A press release issued by the president and acting general secretary of the Sumi Hoho, Hokishe Yepthomi and Kitoho Rotokha stated that about 10,000 representatives from different villages and towns participated in the rally.
The 10,000 strong gathering of public is said to have unanimously reiterated and reaffirmed the Sumi resolutions adopted on November 27 and December 11, 2007. The release informed that the rally also resolved that the Sumis would contribute only to one group of undergrounds and that no contribution in any form would be extended to the faction that does not co-operate with Nagas’ “unification.” “If and when any action is taken against any Sumi Leaders the masses of Sumi public will recompense against the culprit” asserts the resolution.
Declaring all Sumi inhabited area as “Peace Zone” the 9 point resolution also resolved and reaffirmed to support and pressurize GBs’ and DBs’ forum to bring total unification among National Workers amicably as soon as possible and added “We repose our trust on them”. It also stated that the Sumi public stood firm on the principle of ‘Unification first and then Solution’, the resolution clarified that unity of Sumis did not necessarily mean discrimination of the other Naga tribes. “The Unity of Sumi does not necessarily meant to discriminate or eliminate any Naga Tribe to Join in the Unification as it was declared on the principle of “Broad Based Unification” which is invariably meant for all Naga Tribes irrespective of territorial demarcation”, asserted the resolution.
The release received here informed also that short speeches in support of unification among the Naga National workers were made by several eminent public leaders of the Sumi community. Some of those who spoke were Scato Swu (Ex-MP), Kawoto Sukhalu (former vice president, Sumi Hoho), Victo K. Zhimo (Chairman GB & DB Forum), Khukivi Awomi (Ex-Minister), Dr. Inakhe Yeptho (president, Sumi Gazetted Officers Union, Kohima), Zhenito C Yeptho (president, Sumi Kukami Hoho), Hokiye Yeptho (president, Western Sumi Hoho), Huska Yepthomi (Advisor, Sumi Hoho), Sukuto Aye (president, KDSC), Kakiye Chophy (Advisor, Sumi Kukami Hoho) and Hokishe Yepthomi (president, Sumi Hoho).
