Sumi newsletter on women in agri released

Dimapur, April 5 (MExN): A newsletter on women in agriculture written in Sumi dialect entitled “Mpe kupuzhu xathi” was today released by Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Jt. Director, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The newsletter is the outcome of one of ICAR’s Self Help Groups training programs conducted in the month of March 2014, informed a press release.  This first issue covers mainly the “ICAR’s media collaboration with The Morung Express” which is published first Friday of every month.

In his short speech, Dr. Deka appreciated Er. Picto Shohe, MLA & Chairman NHL, for showing keen interest in uplift of the grassroots level and weaker section, especially the Women SHGs in his area. He said that unlike other trainees, this group of SHGs in Atoizu has developed good rapport with ICAR faculty members; come back with a newsletter in their own dialect which would empower the grassroots level. He hoped that this experience would be emulated by other tribes in near future. He also thanked The Morung Express for dedicating one full page to ICAR for articles on agriculture science.

The program was chaired by Hetoni, President STH, Atoizu and vote of thanks was pronounced by Khegholi K Chophy. The patron of the newsletter is Kitoli Naje, President of STH (Sumi Totimi Hoho). The program was well attended by the members of SHGs, scientists, SMS of ICAR and KVK and “Iza Sutoli Tsaikha Foundation,” the newsletter sponsoring family members.
