
ZUNHEBOTO, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): In response to the Naga Hoho’s recent call for reconciliatory measures between the Sumi people and the NSCN (IM), Sumi frontal organizations have resolved to stick to their January 7 resolution, which stated that “the relationship between Sumis and the NSCN (IM) is hereby delinked and abrogated and all ties with that organization is severed . . .” The Sumi Hoho reiterated that as per the January 7 resolution, “. . .all kinds of taxations from the Sumis to the NSCN (IM) shall cease to exist.”
A press note from the Sumi Hoho President, Hovishe Arkha and Secretary, Vihuto Assumi informed that the said decision was taken at the general meeting of all Sumi Frontal Organizations on February 7 at Sumi Hoho Ki, Zunheboto.
The meeting further declared February 12, 2014 as a “Sumi Prayer and Fasting Day” and urged all Sumis to observe the day with prayers and fasting, in order to “seek God’s divine protection from natural calamities. . .” The meeting also acknowledged the “word of warning from believers that the Holy Spirit has forewarned the Sumi people of great tribulation” in the days to come.”
It then agreed to further strengthen the zeal towards uplift and functioning of the Sumi Literature Board. The meeting also resolved that the Sumi Hoho shall extend its full co-operation towards the Zunheboto-Chakhabama road, currently in progress, under the SARDP program.
It cautioned that the Sumi Hoho would initiate for cessation of all government funded schemes to any village, within the jurisdiction of the work, which objects to the construction of this road, especially on land compensation issues. It added that this would be done through intimation to the district administration.
It was informed that a committee called the Sumi Migration Research Committee would be formed, consisting of Dr. Hokishe Yeptho as Convenor, Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, H S Rotokha, president Sumi Hoho and President Sumi Kukami Hoho as members.
The meeting then decided that a Sumi Customary Law Research Committee be constituted with former Sumi Hoho President, Huskha Yepthomi as Convener; Sumi Hoho Secretary, Vihuto Assumi as Secretary; HK Sumi, Former Chief Justice and HS Rotokha, Former Sumi Hoho President as members.
The next Sumi Hoho Annual Session is scheduled to be held on March 14.
