The second edition of the two-day Summer Bazaar, held on July 11–12 at Kuda Wood Park, Lengrijan, brought together local vendors start-ups, and the community in a vibrant marketplace.  Open from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the event supports small businesses and entrepreneurship while offering a lively shopping experience.

The monthly Summer Bazaar is organised on the land adjacent to Kuda Mill, a plywood factory started by Niu Angami.

Sanen Imsong, the organiser, shared that the initiative began as a way to put the unused land to better use. “Instead of investing a lot of money ourselves, we thought of starting something small where vendors can also benefit,” he said.

The goal of the bazaar is to support small businesses, home-based sellers, and new entrepreneurs who may not have access to formal shops or outlets.

According to Sanen, the focus is on creating a platform for side-income and early-stage ventures, especially for those treating it as a hobby or testing a business idea.

The first edition in June saw a strong response with 25 stalls, while the second edition had 17, partly due to overlapping events in the region and the summer holiday season. “Business is unpredictable,” said Sanen. “But we want to keep it consistent, even if the turnout is smaller.”

There was a mix of participants as some vendors had prior experience at carnivals and markets, while others were joining for the first time. “This is my first time,” said one vendor. “We usually do catering, but we wanted to try something new during the off-season.”

They added that while they weren’t expecting immediate results, events like this could offer visibility and connections.

The organizer noted that while the location is slightly off the main road, it offers a quiet and green space suitable for families. “We’re trying to create a space where children can play and parents can shop without stress,” he said.

The Summer Bazaar continues to grow as a small but steady initiative, with the goal of building community and giving local businesses a chance to thrive.
