Sunday school teachers trained in inclusive education

Dimapur, May 19 (MExN): The Christian Education Ministry of Ao Baptist Church Diphupar conducted a workshop on ‘Awareness on Inclusive Education and Inclusive Classroom Practices’ on May 17 at the Kinüklong Conference Hall of the church in Diphupar.

The workshop was facilitated by Keystone Education Society and attended by 18 Sunday school teachers.

According to a press release, the programme was conducted in two sessions. The first session focused on inclusive education and strategies for inclusive classroom practices, highlighting the importance of creating a supportive and accommodating learning environment for all children, including those with diverse learning needs and abilities.

The session discussed practical classroom approaches and techniques to help Sunday school teachers encourage participation and inclusion within classroom settings. Resource persons for the workshop included Toshisangla Jamir and Imnuksungla Theophilo Jamir.

The second session focused on supportive counselling skills for teachers. It highlighted the importance of counselling, understanding counselling approaches for different age groups, and developing basic counselling skills such as empathy, active listening, emotional support, and appropriate communication while interacting with children.

Participants were also encouraged to better understand the emotional needs of students and provide supportive guidance within the school environment. A role play activity was conducted to help participants practically understand and apply the counselling skills discussed during the workshop.

The workshop concluded with interactive discussions, sharing sessions, and active participation from the attendees. Teachers were encouraged to continue fostering inclusive, supportive, and child-friendly educational practices in their classrooms.

The sessions also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on understanding children’s diverse needs, recognising learned behaviour as a form of communication, and promoting a more compassionate and inclusive learning environment, the release stated.
