Sunshine Orchestra-Nagaland Chapter debut recital in Kohima

Glimpses from the debut recital of the Sunshine Orchestra-Nagaland Chapter at Centre of Excellence for Music & Arts (CEMA), Kohima on May 31.

Kohima, June 2 (MExN): The Sunshine Orchestra-Nagaland Chapter, a collaborative initiative between A.R. Rahman Foundation’s KM Music Conservatory and Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), held its debut recital on May 31 at Centre of Excellence for Music & Arts (CEMA), Kohima.

This recital event showcased the extraordinary talent and discipline of its young musicians.

MLA Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor, Water Resources Department, Government of Nagaland graced the occasion as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, he lauded the initiative for nurturing young talent and underscored the transformative power of music in shaping lives and communities.

He further emphasized the importance of creating more such platforms to harness the creative potential of children and youth, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.

He expressed confidence that initiatives like the Sunshine Orchestra would inspire a new generation of musicians from Nagaland to shine on national and global stages.

The evening featured moving performances by the Sunshine Orchestra – Nagaland Chapter, comprising children receiving free, world-class musical training as part of the A.R. Rahman Foundation’s vision to provide opportunities to socially and economically underprivileged children.

The collaboration with TaFMA marks a significant step in bringing this vision to the Northeast region.

Theja Meru, chairman TaFMA, emphasized the importance of music education and the state’s commitment to creating a sustainable music ecosystem.

Meru expressed pride in the journey of the young musicians and their potential to represent Nagaland on global platforms.

He also thanked Nagaland’s chief minister Dr.. Neiphiu Rio and Dr. A.R. Rahman for their vision, patronage, and inspiration.

Meru informed that Sunshine Orchestra, Nagaland Chapter comprised of children from Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home was launched in 2019 by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio.

“Today, they have 20 children altogether in the Orchestra,” Meru said.

Special appearances by Zavino Nakhro and a beautiful piano recital by Wenwen added further charm to the evening.

The event was made possible through the tireless efforts of the TaFMA team, with guidance from Director Vilhou Kezo and accompanied by Kecha Pfukri on piano.

The event was chaired by Dr. Hovithal Sothu while vote of thanks was proposed by Aleno Sale.

Former MLA Medo Yhokha, NDPP central youth organization president Imchatoba Imchen also present on the occasion.
