Dimapur: The Super Market complex in Dimapur built under the funding of the Ministry of Town and Planning department is yet to be transformed into an attractive shopping centre.
Most shoppers are of the opinion that the appearance of the complex should be revamped. They are of the view that the premises have the potential of becoming a booming shopping centre.
When contacted, the Secretary of the Development Authority of Nagaland(D AN) N. Aier said that the organization was preparing a project to refurbish the Super Market.
The DAN is the authority that deals with matters relating to the marketing complex. Aier revealed that extension of the complex could not be implemented at present due to financial constraints.
The compound houses 335 rooms of which only 16 are vacant at the moment. These vacant rooms are positioned at the basements and as such there are few takers for these accommodations.
Rooms in the first and second floors of the complex are solely reserved for offices.
In the event of vacancy of rooms, the authority releases advertisements inviting prospective tenants.
Interested persons can approach the DAN and collect forms from its office. A screening committee headed by its Chairman decides who receives the rooms after interviewing the applicants.
The Secretary further divulged that the office of the DAN was overstaffed and thus most of the revenue generated from the complex was disbursed as salary to its staff. The office staff including the watchmen of the premises comprises of 87 odd persons. He attributed the large workforce to political appointments that had been made earlier.
However, he made no comments when asked if the complex was housing ‘certain liquor shops.’
It may be mentioned that the Nagaland House, Kolkata constructed by the DAN has now been handed over to the government as construction works have been completed.
