
Urges vendors to shift to marketing shed

A day after the toppling of trees at the busy Dimapur’s Supermarket claimed two lives and injured six others, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority Sachin Jaiswal has ordered the cutting of trees from Nagarjan Police Point to Walford Petrol Pump from October 17-24.
In this connection, the DC Dimapur in an order issued on October 13 stated that all vehicular movement will remain suspended from Old Dhansiri bridge till Nagarjan Police Point form 5AM-5 PM from October 17-24.
In addition, there will be total power shutdown from 5AM-5PM during the intervening period for consumers residing in Supermarket area, Circuit House areas and Bank Colony.
It further notified that any type of cables, wires etc strung between the trees within the stretch of Naga Shopping Arcade (Supermarket) Dimapur be immediately remove or undertaken before October 16.
The DC Dimapur further requested the general public to avoid using the said stretch during the execution of the work.
Meanwhile, in view of the risk posed due to uprooting of trees, the DC Dimapur in seperate press release informed all the vegetable and street vendors along the stretch of Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market) Dimapur starting from Nagarjan Police Point to Walford Petrol Pump to immediately shift to the newly inaugurated marketing shed located at Supermarket area from October 13.
Non-compliance of the order will be met with strict action as per relevant provision of the Disaster Management Act 2005, it added.
MLA and Advisor to Power Department Nagaland, Tovihoto Ayemi in a press release also urged the citizens to support and extend cooperation towards the effort to accomplish the task.
Though Ayemi is on an official assignment outside the state, his representatives, consoling the victims visited the family members of the two who died in the incident and also those admitted in the hospital, a press release informed.
