‘Support the govt to bring development & prosperity’

Mon, April 5 (DIPR): The Konyak’s celebrated Aoleang Festival at Mon with Parliamentary Secretary for IPR and Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba as the chief guest and State Chief Secretary, Lalthara as the guest of honour.
The chief guest in his address thanked the Konyak Union for inviting him on the occasion of their main Festival ‘Aoleang’ which literally means ‘a great feast’. He wished them that this merry making festival, may bring peace, unity and prosperity to the people of Mon and Konyak tribe as a whole. “Without our unique cultural identity we are a lost people, and that we should pass it on to our younger generation to preserve our cultural identity,” Tohanba said. On the development front, he said that with good support from the people there is so much development especially in the ENPO area under DAN Government, and thus requested the gathering to support the government to bring development and prosperity to the people of the district. He also requested the people, specially the elected members to be united and lead the ENPO to bring peace through unity and progress.
Aoleang festival celebrations at Mon
The Parliamentary Secretary, pointing out that Konyaks are the first Tribe to talk about the “Naga unity” among the Eastern Nagaland, said that the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organization (ENPO) has adopted the stand of the Konyaks and at present the Nagas has finally stood for Naga unity which the Konyaks has initiated.  He also said that the Konyaks are a major tribe not only among Eastern Nagas but also among the entire Naga tribes. The chief guest called upon the Konyaks to be firm in making any decisions and to maintain peace and unity among the Konyaks. Tohanba also praised the uniqueness of the Konyaks speaking 53 different sub- dialects and maintaining peace and oneness among themselves.  
He also informed that Road shows have been organized to have government-people interface during tribal festivals in the state. This year, the government has decided to promote tribal festivals to preserve the rich cultural heritage of various Naga tribes and to expose it to the outside world. He also urged upon the Konyaks to extend full cooperation and support to the DAN Government for all-round development.
State Chief Secretary in his address described the Konyak people as the most unique, original, artistic, skilful, intelligent with common sense and with a very good sense of humour. He said that, Eastern Naga people decided to join Nagaland State in 1957 and since then Nagas of whole Nagaland were united and were living peacefully. Pointing out that with the advancement of technologies, the World has become a global village, the Chief .Secretary said that the people of European countries have come closer burying the past differences and exhorted the Konyaks to remain united with the rest of the Nagas.  With the separation of Konyaks or the Eastern Nagaland, Nagaland will remain only a part of the Nagas, he added.     
Earlier, The chief guest and guest of honour was accorded a warm traditional welcome by the cultural troupes with the firing of muzzle loading guns and beating of the Gong and Log drums. Earlier, welcome address was proposed by The Chairman Shri. S. Khoiwang President, Konyak Union, Invocation by Rev. J. Tenwang, District Chaplain Mon, and significance of Konyak Aoleang was highlighted by Ex-President Konyak Union Hok. Vote of thanks was proposed by K. Tingnyei, Ex-President Konyak Union.
The host of dignitaries present included Minister for Forest, M.C. Konyak, Minister for School Education, Nyeiwang Konyak, Chairman MARCOFED, C.L. John, Ex-Minister C. Noklem, Deputy Commissioner Mon Dinesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mon, other government officials and public leaders.
