Zunheboto, April 29 (MExN): Taking note of the misconceptions over the burial of COVID-19 victims, the Sürümi Village Council (SVC) had an emergency meeting at Village Council Court of Surumi on April 29 and unanimously decided that in the event of death of COVID-19 victim, “the mortal remains of its sons and daughters” will be allowed to be buried in the village cemetery and burial grounds of family or church after observing a Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
A press release received here stated that the meeting which was attended by Village Council, VDB, village elders, Dr Akaho Awomi, Dy CMO-Zunheboto, health workers from Zunheboto, Shivukhu, Convenor, Hotoshe Sema, Secretary and Hokuto Jakhalu, Member of Sürümi Pekikithi Mqo thoroughly deliberated on the controversial issues of burial of COVID-19 victims in the village.
The SVC stated that since the health department had made it clear that there would be no additional risk of infection after a dead body is properly treated and attended, the death of Covid-19 victims should not be discriminated.
The SVC Secretary Vitioi Awomi, Akükau and the Chairman Akuto Shikhu, Akükau, the Council said that God forbid but in case of unfortunate death, it has no objection over burial of victims in the village after observing all the necessary safety precautions as the dignity of the dead, the religious tradition and family should be respected and supported.
The SVC appreciated the health department, the administration and all CSOs for their unrelenting efforts to ward off this pandemic in the state.
