Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): The newly constructed suspension bridge spanning more than 520 feet at Seitheke Basa was inaugurated by Jacob Zhimomi, Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control this morning in the presence of village elders.
The bridge, according to a press release, is the lifeline of more than six villages under Chumukedima sub-division.
The old bridge collapsed on August 13, 2016 when strong water current washed away more than 30-40 feet of the bank on which the main structure of the bridge stood, it was informed. However, with timely intervention of Parliamentary Secretary Jacob Zhimomi, the villagers could construct a new bridge in less than one month, the release stated.
Villagers informed that an average of more than 2000 commuters, including students and office goers, use the bridge on a daily basis.
The bridge is the lifeline for Seitheke Basa village, Seitheke ‘A’ village, Seitheke ‘C’ village, Sodzulhou village, 7th Mile village, and Model village.
