Suspicious death of a Manipuri in Sikkim triggers protest in Imphal

"Suspicious" death a Manipuri in Sikkim triggered a protest here in Imphal on Monday. Angom Ingocha, 47, a resident of Phayeng Sabal Leikai in Imphal West district who, as assistant professor in Sikkim, died reportedly in a road accident in Sikkim’s Ranipur bypass road on Sunday morning.


In connection with the death of the assistant professor in controversial accident, Sikkim police has arrested a person. Alleging that they suspect the death of the assistant professor in accident, the residents of Phayeng demanded a thorough enquiry into the incident and deliver justice to the family of the victim.


They staged a sit-in-protest in their village while demanding that the culprit(s) should be booked and award befitting punishment. They alleged that he was murdered in a "stage managed accident".


"Culprit(s) should be punished to deliver justice to the deceased assistant professor", they demanded while pleading the state (Manipur) government to press the concerned authorities of Sikkim government to take up necessary steps to enquire into the "suspicious" death of the assistant professor.
