‘Sustainable peace possible through women’

Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): Three days seminar was conducted on ‘Women in peace building’ by Nagaland Catholic Women Association in Collaboration with Peace Channel in Don Bosco Institute of Development & Leadership (DBIDL) Dimapur from May 26 to 28.  

The seminar was organised in order to educate and empower the women about their rights and train them on the skills and techniques of peace to work for peace building in the society.  

The resource persons for the seminar were Fr. Dr. CP Anto, Founder & Director of Peace Channel, Dr. Aküm Longchar, Editor, The Morung Express, Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, Head of English Department Nagaland University cum Advisor of Naga Women Association, Liangsi Niumai, Advocate, Director of Care-Centre for Environment and Rural Poor Dimapur, Samir Bordoloi, a freelance organic Farmer, Consultant and an Agripreneur.  

The topics which were being stressed upon by the resource persons during the seminar were Skills & Status of Women in conflict situation, Women participation in conflict resolution & peace building, Role of women in peace building activities, Women as an agents for positive change and to bring peace in the society by improving the economy through organic farming.  

A press note stated that the seminar consisted of lectures, group discussions, peace celebration, audio visual learning sessions and different exercises to learn the importance of Truth, Mercy, Justice and Peace and to convey the message of our present society.  

Through different sessions the participants were being trained to be a good peace builder by empowering oneself, raise voice for voiceless, be a good book and be a source of inspiration for others, to work on organic farming and improve the economy of our society by utilising the available natural resources and bring sustainable peace in the society.  

The seminar turn out to be a boon as well as an eye opening session for all the participants as they were being equipped with lots of beneficial inputs which will help them in attaining peace within oneself, in the family, society and the world at large.  

The seminar was attended by more than 80 women leaders from different Tribes, Region, and Parishes of Nagaland. The seminar thus concluded with two action plans i.e. every community/Parish/Region will conduct a training programme and get trained with the assistance of Peace Channel and Nagaland Catholic Women Association in promoting and skilling the women on peace building and dialogue. To form Women Peace Cell in different parishes of the dioceses.
