The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell Nagaland and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangatham, Nagaland in collaboration with Japfü Christian College (JCC), Kigwema conducted Swacchata-cum-Yoga programme for NSS volunteers at JCC Indoor Stadium on May 14.
This programme was part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Kelhouzasie Lawrence, Yoga Instructor, AYUSH Mission, Nagaland led the “Common Yoga protocol practice” as part of the observance of curtain raiser of International Day of Yoga 2022, organized by NSS Cell Nagaland and NYKS Nagaland.
John Makhabo, director in-charge NYKS Nagaland informed that the main programme of International Day of Yoga 2022 will take place on June 21 in Kohima.
Nagaland’s Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio are also expected to join the day, Makhabo said.
Earlier, Mezhüvi Thorie, Assistant Professor, JCC talked on waste management. The NSS volunteers have been enlightened on plastic management, use of dust bin, open defecation free and safe disposal of waste (Bio and non- bio- degradable materials).
Nagaland state NSS officer, Zeneikho-o Pfukha said that Swacchata is one of the mandate and flagship programme of NSS under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
Later, NSS volunteers carried out a cleanliness drive at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, the venue of Hornbill Festival of Nagaland.
NSS volunteers from JCC, St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kros College, Model Christian College, Modern College, Capital College of Higher Education and Kohima Science College (Autonomous) joined the programme.
It was chaired by Chongshen Michael Chang while vote of thanks was proposed by Vizapo Kikhi, residence officer, JCC.
Nagaland NSS Cell functions under Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, Kohima. Currently, it has 11, 400 volunteers, covering 63 institutions across the state.
NSS is a government sponsored public service programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It is the largest student youth movement in the world with 38 lakh volunteers covering 391 universities and 12, 483 senior secondary schools.
